Casey Henry
This past weekend was my first official weekend as the Dixie Bee-Liners new banjo player. (Read the announcement on the Bluegrass Blog.) We played four dates at varying venues (a bar, a festival, a concert, a party) and overall had a great time. The traveling was pretty easy (4-5 hour drive every day with decent lodging and some really good suppers—I can highly recommend the Louisville restaurant Ramsis Cafe) and only one morning did we end up seriously caffeine deprived.
Below are some pictures from the weekend, mostly courtesy of Mary Jo Kolb who saw (on Facebook) that we needed new pictures of the band for the website and came to the Kentucky Bluegrass Festival armed with her camera!

In the above picture I’m playing my old Gibson style 11, which I carry on the road tuned to an open E chord to play on a few numbers on the show. (Don’t ask me what all the notes the strings are, because I don’t know. It’s the same as G only the third string is an E note.)

Here I’m playing my Kel Kroydon Casey Henry model. Also, you can kind of see the new hairdo I was trying–a loose french braid. I think it works really nicely. I’m going to keep it in the repertoire.

This weekend we’re playing at the Pickin in the Panhandle festival in Hedgeville, WV. We play on Saturday at 1:00 and 5:30. Hope to see some of you there!

Congratulations Casey! I thought you were just filling in. Now you have to come play around Raleigh. I bet the Rooster’s Wife will want you all to come and then there is the Cat’s Cradle and The Pourhouse and the Carrboro Arts Center and the Berkeley Cafe. I will try to come see you all in Denton. That is just around the corner from my farm and it is a really good place to play.

Hey Marty,
I actually won’t be at the Denton gig as it conflicts with the Murphy Method/FiddleStar Jam Camp, which I already had booked when I got the DBL job. We’ll be playing in NC in November, though, I think, and I’ll definitely be at those gigs!

Congratulations Casey and good luck on your new adventure(s) with the Dixie Bee-Liners. We’re looking forward to the day when we can see you in Honolulu, and the distance is not that long from Japan.
Sorry I missed you in Hedgesville; Bill and I were in Yellowstone, but am thinking about the Richmond and/or Hampton dates. Can’t wait to hear you in the real!
I have had nothing but problems when I try to add the blogs RSS feed to my feed reading software. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a problem with your site?
Hmmm. I don’t know anything about RSS feeds, and I don’t even know if our blog has one. Sorry I can’t help you out more. I’ll put it on my list to look into—but don’t take that to mean I’ll get to it anytime in the near future. It’s my “do this sometime in 2010″ list, not my “do this next week” list!
